Vanesa is one of only four outstanding scientists selected by the AXA Research Fund’s independent Scientific Board for her ground-breaking work in the field of climate change.
The award is for “Responding to Climate Change while Advancing Social Justice and Reducing Inequality in Urban Areas”. Most emissions in the next century will be emitted by infrastructures that are yet to be built, particularly in rapidly urbanising areas where infrastructure is lacking. Vanesa examines the social impact of actions to adapt and mitigate climate change in urban areas and how urban communities produce climate innovations that respond to their own needs and challenges.
